M ental health awareness and access to care are vital components of overall well-be ing, yet numerous barriers continue to impede African American adults from seeking the help they need. Stigma, cultural factors, and systemic inequalities have contributed to a concerning lack of mental health support within this community. This article explores the importance of breaking the silence sur rounding mental health and highlights strategies to promote awareness and access in African American adult populations. Cultural Factors and Mental Health Cultural factors play a significant role in shaping mental health perceptions within African American communities. The concept of "strong black woman/man" can lead to the suppression of emotions and a reluctance to acknowledge vulnerabilities. Moreover, historical trauma, such as experiences of slavery and racism, can influence mental health struggles that may manifest as present-day challenges.
