a Future Building center’s youth programs.e internship was part of NCADD’s S.A.F.E.T.Y. program, or the Successful Alliance for Educating Talented Youth. Over the following year, Durrah became more and more involved in the program, attending workshops about the dangers of drugs and alcohol and learning how to make positive life choices. He says the programming opened his eyes to the high-risk behaviors his peers were engaging in and helped keep him moving in the right direction. “If it wasn’t for the exposure that I got through the S.A.F.E.T.Y. program, I probably would have partaken [in high-risk behaviors],” Durrah says. “It’s what individuals around me were doing.”
Student finds lasting success through NCADD program acob Durrah just needed something to do for the summer. What he found would change his life. As a high school freshman, one of Durrah’s friends told him about NCADD and the summer internship program they o ered. With no other summer plans and a desire to make a little money, he decided to check it out. “e summer job is really what attracted me to the program,” Durrah says. at summer, Durrah worked at a local rec center, doing oce work and helping with the
